THE Studio in Jeffreys Bay run by Robyn D’Arcy, and Defying Gravity Dance School from Gqeberha, run by Heidi Samp-son and Lauren McCarthy, joined forces at the beginning of this year.

The aim behind to collaboration was to cross pollinate their diverse dance styles and add value to the existing schools. Defying Gravity has multiple studios running in Gqeberha with various dance styles, whereas The Studio in JBay offers classical ballet training and pilates for dancers.

Defying Gravity travels to Jeffreys Bay to offer hip-hop, modern and tap dance classes, and The Studio travels to Gqeberha to offer classical ballet lessons.

D’Arcy said, “We collaborated for our first performance, ‘Grounded’, on Tuesday and Wednesday evening (last week) at the Savoy Theatre in Gqeberha and both shows were a sell-out.”

Their next venture will be competing in the upcoming Port Elizabeth Dance Festival held at the Savoy Theatre from August 17 to 27.
