Rugby fans in Nelson Mandela Bay are asked to not only support the Springboks playing in Pretoria on Saturday but also throw their weight behind the South African team that will be in action in the NMB stadium later in the evening.

The Champion Team, composed from the seven Currie Cup unions and voted for by the fans, will take on the strong Italy A side in the stadium.

“We know people want to support the Springboks playing against Wales (starting time 17:05) but here is an opportunity to support both South African teams,” the coach of the Champion Team, Jimmy Stonehouse, said.

“They can watch the match in the Fan Park (where there will also be live entertainment) or at home on television and still have time to get to the stadium. Kick-off is at 19:45.

“We have home advantage but we need the supporters to help us with that. We are planning a match to look forward to, a spectacle.”

The captain, Nama Xaba sees the match as a test match.

“It is a test match challenge for our team against a strong Italian side. We want to play an expansive style for the spectators but have to do the hard work upfront first.”

Fans will be able to vote who is the man of the match via all the social media platforms.

A ticket costs R49.
