SAPS Swartkops and K9 members’ quick reaction resulted in the confiscation of abalone, as well as the seizure of a Nissan Navara during the early hours of yesterday morning, 2 July.

According to Colonel Priscilla Naidu, it is alleged that on the mentioned date at about 01:00, members were following up on information about suspected abalone poachers in Redhouse when they noticed the suspect vehicle.

“K9 unit members chased after the vehicle and succeeded in stopping in Deare Street, Redhouse. The suspects jumped out of the vehicle and ran into bushes,” Naidu said.

A total of 2 536 units of abalone was found in the vehicle. The vehicle has been impounded for further investigation. The estimated value of the abalone is R500 000.”An enquiry docket was opened for investigation.”
