SAFA Nelson Mandela Bay (NMB) Regional League log leaders, Roaring Tigers FC, collected three valuable points in their bid to claim the league title, when they overcame Motherwell Academy 1-0, during their away clash that took place at Motherwell NU 2 Stadium on Sunday.
The current league champions played an impressive game, while the log leaders pursued for their opening goal. Motherwell Academy, which consists mainly of young players, also launched many attacks, with Siyasanga Mbinambina, being a thorn in Tigers’ flesh.
Tigers scored a long-awaited goal, courtesy of Lazola Manzana, from the penalty mark, in the 25th minute, after the home team goalkeeper, Bulelani Gubevu kicked their counterparts’ attacking player in the chest inside the penalty area.
The home side made numerous efforts in search of their equalising goal but Tigers’ defence was solid. With a few minutes left, Milani Mrwadi delivered a perfect pass to Mbinambina, whose shot went wide. The game was highly contested with both sides playing the football of a high standard.
On Saturday, Tigers defeated the tough Madibaz Football side, 1-0 at Chevrolet Stadium in New Brighton, while Academy had a bye on Saturday.
