‘Matilda the Musical’ soon on local stage

THE buzz around the Bay is growing! Matilda fans of all ages have been excitedly waiting for tickets to go on sale and now the wait is over.

This family musical promises to be a hit with adults and children alike. Auditions for Matilda the Musical took place in June and since then the production team and cast have been hard at work belting out songs and learning fancy footwork in preparation for opening night on September 21.

As the 2022 inaugural Isakhono Musical Theatre and Dance Fellow, G&S has selected Matilda the Musical to showcase the talent in Nelson Mandela Bay.

Matilda the Musical is based on the Roald Dahl novel, with a script by Dennis Kelly and music and lyrics by Tim Minchin.

Matilda is a “who’s who” of local musical theatre luminaries. The legendary Robin Williams takes the director’s chair, with well-known Ian von Memerty directing vocals.

Alexander Road High School’s music maestro, Dario Broccardo, is the musical director and up-and-coming choreographer, Darren Rockman, works his magic under the mentorship of Chireen Ferreira. Greg Everard will swap his director’s chair for a hammer to play the tyrannical Miss Trunchbull.

The last major musical production to grace the stage at the Savoy Theatre was The Sound of Music in 2019 and G&S is ready to wow Gqeberha once again.

Matilda the Musical will run until October 8 with both evening and matinée performances. Tickets are available through Webtickets both online and at Pick n Pay at R160 or R120 for the special family shows on September 24, 25 and 27 and October 2, 4 and 6.
