EP Athletics is inviting all women and their partners to celebrate Women’s Day by entering the Choose to Challenge 10km on Saturday, August 6.
Formerly known as the popular Diva Run, the Choose to Challenge race was renamed last year, in line with the International Women’s Day theme and is open to all runners, serious athletes, fun runners, moms and their daughters, as well as supportive men who wish to celebrate women with their participation in this event.
The race embraces these key messages: “We can all choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality; we can all choose to seek out and celebrate women’s achievements; collectively, we can all help create an inclusive world; from challenge comes change, so let’s all choose to challenge!”
The 10km event will start from Kings Beach, at 07:00, with an out-and-back route along the beach front towards Humewood Golf Course.
Well-known local top runner, Ntombesintu Mfunzi, who has participated in this popular 10km race many times, shared her vision of the run.
“The Choose to Challenge 10km brings women of all walks of life together to experience the fun of running and a healthy lifestyle.
“I encourage all women to join me because running is the best therapy – it can help you fight whatever you are going through.
“When I lace up my shoes, I always come back feeling in a better place because running works!
“The Choose to Challenge 10km gives us a chance to celebrate women power, running together with friends, family.”
Mfunzi wrote her inspirational book, Yoyisa (meaning Overcome), to document how running helped her overcome her near-death rape ordeal.
Last year the Choose to Challenge 10km was won by two Ikhamva Athletics Club athletes, Melikhaya Frans, who had an excellent finish in 28:50, and Nwabisa Mjoli, who led the women home in 36:26.
